A recent survey of mediators indicates that it is generally assumed that there are not enough opportunities available to make a successful career out of mediating. This seems to run contrary to the presumption that ADR is increasing in usage and popularity. Either this basic assumption is misguided or there are too many mediators and not enough cases to go around. If the latter scenario is indeed the case, mediators need to identify themselves in niche markets to stand out from the crowd. Increased education and training may provide mediators with increased opportunities and a competitive edge.
Mediators can standout from the crowd by specializing. Mediators with an impressive resume are more often selected for panel positions and mediation opportunities. In order to remain competitive, mediators must advertise their own unique qualifications. Specialization and qualifications may be gained from exposure, experience, and training.
Information about the ADR opportunities listed below was compiled as a practical study of the current state of mediation training and specialization in Georgia. The mediation programs discussed herein are representative of the vast array of specialization opportunities available for mediators to expand their practice.
This report is intended to serve as a stepping stone to increase awareness of training opportunities and mediation programs in Georgia. The information provided may benefit mediators who wish to expand their mediation practice or develop a niche within the mediator community.
